Why would I convert my salary to an hourly rate?
Freelancers and consultants use it to price work against a salaried benchmark. It also helps employees understand what their time is worth per hour, which is the number to use when evaluating side work or overtime.
How many weeks per year should I use?
Standard is 52. But if you get 4 weeks of paid leave, use 48 — your effective hourly rate is higher because you work fewer weeks for the same salary. The calculator defaults to 52 and lets you adjust.
Does this include benefits and taxes?
No — it's a straight division of salary by hours. A salaried employee's true cost to an employer is 1.3–1.5x salary when benefits and taxes are included, so an equivalent freelance rate is usually higher than this number.
